WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today unveiled two funding opportunities totaling more than $162 million to improve efficiency and reduce carbon emissions among cars, trucks, and off-road vehicles. The funding will support the next stage of the SuperTruck initiatives—aimed at electrifying freight trucking—along with efforts to expand electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure and lower emissions for on- and off-road vehicles.

One of Arizona's largest utility companies will give customers in the Valley a $1,000 rebate if they buy or lease a new electric vehicle from a Valley dealership.

The goal is to lower emissions rates in the Valley.

The SRP "Plug-in and Save" rebate pilot program applies to the purchase or lease of new all-electric or plug-in electric hybrid vehicles only. Hybrid vehicles that don’t plugin will not qualify.

On March 31, President Joe Biden unveiled what he called the American Jobs Plan in Pittsburgh. He proposed $174 billion “to win the EV market,” including point-of-sale rebates and tax incentives, and a national network of half a million EV chargers by 2030. The plan also includes replacing 50,000 diesel transit buses, and it establishes an EPA Clean Buses for Kids program, aimed at electrifying at least 20 percent of the yellow school bus fleet.
